Onboarding tells you who a carrier was when you signed them. This tells you who showed up today. A carrier you cleared in July may have renewed a policy in August with a different set of trucks on it — so the list is confirmed with the agent for this load, and the truck at your gate is matched against what the insurer covers now. If it isn't on the policy, you get an alert with the DOT, the load, the pickup address, and the VIN that was photographed — before the load is released, not after.
Before you tender, you can see any carrier's reliability record — built from real verification outcomes across the whole network, the pattern across many brokers, not one company's opinion of a bad day. You add to it yourself: after a load, you rate the carrier, and that rating joins the same shared record every other broker draws on. And every check you run is timestamped and kept — when a load is questioned months later, you have a documented verification record, not a recollection.
